Steve Carell Say's Farewell to 'The Office'.
Steve Carell, who plays Michael Scott in NBC’s The Office, has announced that this will be his final season on the show. When talking to BBC, Carell said there are no plans of renewing his contract the end of this season. “I just think it’s time”, Carell said to E! “I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.”
But will the show go on without its beloved boss? Carell definitely thinks so. He was even quoted saying, “The show is great, and the ensemble is so strong, and the writers are great, so it’s just one part of the ensemble drifting off.” They’ve incorporated so many new characters and so many new, great storylines that I have no doubt it’ll continue as strong if not stronger than ever.”
So why has Carell decided to throw in the towel? In an interview with Craig Ferguson, Carell states, “To spend more time with family.” Long time fans of the show and myself both have opinions on him leaving. Personally, I don’t blame him. People don’t understand the amount of work that goes into an episode, and seven years on the same show playing the same character is a long haul. I think he made the right decision to move on.
The Office is one of TV's biggest shows with its biggest asset being Carell. So it will come with no surprise that he will be missed. But the real question remains, how long will NBC drag out this show before people have had enough?
